Affiliate link startups team up: VigLink acquires DrivingRevenue

August 2nd, 2010 No comments

VigLink , a Google Ventures-backed startup that helps publishers make money off their product links, just announced that it’s has acquired its competitor DrivingRevenue.com . San Francisco-based VigLink isn’t sharing the price or other deal details, but chief executive Oliver Roup told me the two companies are actually rather complementary — where VigLink has focused out on building its technology such as detailed data and analytics for publishers, DrivingRevenue has recruited a large sales team and already facilitated nearly $200 million in purchases through its affiliate links. As a result, the companies are merging withint cutting a single member of the workforce, and DrivingRevenue will keep its Chicago office, Roup said. The appeal of companies like VigLink is that they can help online publishers make money without much extra work.

Other disclosures include internal memos about the dumping of toxic waste near Africa’s coast, the membership of a racist British party, and the prison manual for Guantanamo Bay. The lesson for tech companies, and everyone else, is clear. Secret documents have a way of becoming public

Trilliant , one of several companies piecing together a cleaner, more efficient smart grid, just got a big shot in the arm. The Redwood City, Calif. company has raised $106 million in venture funding to expand globally and continue developing its products . Trilliant provides mesh networking equipment that allows smart meters to communicate wirelessly with utilities and, increasingly, consumer-facing energy monitors. Its technology can beam this data over long distances and within local and even home-area networks, making it more versatile than what many of its competitors are offering.
