Rumor: Will the Droid X actually launch on July 2?

June 23rd, 2010 No comments

Section: Communications , Cellphones , Cellular Providers , Smartphones , Mobile , Web , Websites If this rumor actually pans out, it would be quite amazing.? Yesterday, the latest Droid X commercial was launched and it appeared on Verizon’s YouTube channel.? Naturally, many people went to view it as it sits at over 100,000 views to see if they could discern any special details.? When viewing the ad, if you look closely at the text written on the eye (this moves fast and it is backwards so you might want to take it frame-by-frame) you can see some specs listed such as 4.3 inch screen.? In addition to the already known specs being repeated, Droid-Life paused the ad at the 15 second mark and noticed a date written.? If you view it in normal speed mode, the only date provided is 7.2010, which falls in line with the rumored July 19 date .? However, when paused at 15 seconds, it seems to read 7.2.2010 (check out the image above) giving rise to the possibility the Droid X would be launched a lot sooner than many expected.? Perhaps we will only know the truth about the release date come tomorrow at Motorola’s event .? Or perhaps the hype surrounding the Droid X is so great that we are ready to look anywhere to find anything to believe.? The ad posted on YouTube can be viewed below. Microsoft floating cash to iPhone devs for Windows Phone app portages

June 14th, 2010 No comments

Microsoft is splashing out cash to tempt iPhone app developers into porting their software to Windows Phone 7. A report on PocketGamer.biz claims the company is flashing its chequebook as it moves to woo developers, offering upfront cash payments to devs willing to engage in the move. Microsoft’s attempt isn’t seeing complete success, with one developer saying the money on offer, described as a “substantial” sum, still isn’t enough to pay for the time to port code frpm C++ to Microsoft’s formats. Some may recall reports from a few weeks back which suggested Apple and Microsoft may have some kind of pending deal under which it would become easier to develop apps for iPhone from Microsoft’s formats. Now, we know that Global Equities Research analyst, Trip Chowdhry, and his claims were later proved incorrect, though the analyst continued to say his contacts “insist that both Microsoft and Apple are working on development tools – probably our timing is off.” The new report suggests such purported proposals could be moot, “Our source still reckoned there was the possibility Microsoft could tweak the development environment to make porting from C++ easier, and hence tip the balance to make the deal commercially viable,” PocketGamer adds.
