Facebook, Ping hit by iPhone spam attackers

September 3rd, 2010 enas No comments

Facebook has moved to reassure people affected by last weekend’s iPhone scam hack that their account data wasn’t compromised, while Apple’s new Ping service becomes a haven for spammers, according to two separate reports. Facebook’s security team has posted a message on the walls of thousands of users who were hit by the free iPhone scam. The scam saw hackers posting images promoting a free iPhone on their pages. Was security compromised? No, says a note from the Facebook Security Team “For a few hours on Sunday, there was a spamming incident on Facebook. During this time, photos (mostly of supposedly “free” iPhones) were posted to some people’s Walls, including yours. We’ve removed the photo from your Wall and fixed the issue that allowed spammers to do this.

Data storage company 3Par accepts HP’s hefty $2.4B offer, Dell withdraws

September 2nd, 2010 Naigmacab No comments

The very public Dell and HP bidding war for the data storage company 3Par may finally be coming to an end. HP announced today that it increased its offer for 3Par to $33 per share — or $2.4 billion. Shortly thereafter, 3Par announced that it will accept the offer , and Dell said that it won’t revise its previous $2 billion offer , and will pull out of acquisition talks. The news comes after an increasingly high-stakes back and forth between Dell and HP for the hand of 3Par over the past few weeks. Dell initially announced that it would buy the company for $1.15 billion , HP came back with a $1.6 billion offer , and Dell outbid it slightly with a $1.6 billion offer of its own , which 3Par accepted. HP didn’t give up.

Card reader CardMunch automates those pesky follow-up emails

September 2nd, 2010 Psychick No comments

A startup called CardMunch aims to best all the other mobile business card reading applications out there, by offering fast, accurate card transcription. And it wants to become even more helpful with a new feature called Follow Up, which automates the process of sending follow-up emails to people after you’ve collected their cards. Cofounder and chief executive Bowei Gai demonstrated the app for me earlier this summer. We grabbed a stack of cards gathered at a VentureBeat event, lined them up on a table, then scanned each one. It only took a few seconds per card, and we started to receive the transcribed contact info a minute or two later.

The YP-U6 is a really slim device, as you can probably tell form the picture below, and it comes with 20 hours of audio playback.?
